things to do
What to do at Rusty Gate
Rusty Gate caters to the young, old and in-between by offering bird watching, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, swimming, paddling and even a foefie-slide (zipline) for the less faint-hearted! For those less active, a leisurely read in a hammock alongside a shady stream amongst the pin oak trees should do the trick.

Birding
Rusty Gate offers much to explore for birding enthusiasts as a result of the interesting geography and fauna on the farm. Take your time to explore the veld, rocky outcrops, ravines and water areas to spot many of our feathered friends ranging from endemic and local species to various migratory birds and raptors.

Hiking
There are many tracks and trails to explore at Rusty Gate for the hiking enthusiast. Take a leisurely stroll around the cottages or the “Otter Trail”. The more adventurous can opt for the longer mountainous 2 kilometre hike to the Elandskoof Dam in the adjacent Nature reserve. The more energetic folk can do a 3 to 4-hour round trip hike following river courses and dirt tracks.

Water Activities
The recreational dam within walking distance to the North-east from Eagle’s Eyrie and the cottages is a favourite spot of Rusty Guests for water activities. The dam holds about 100 000 cubic meters of water with the deepest point at over 15 meters when full. The dam caters for summer and winter recreation.
